In the March issue of BBC History Magazine, Marc Morris considers how the English king Edward I's policy towards Scotland in the 1290s led to the countries moving from friends to enemies. Marc visited the historic sites in the Anglo-Scottish borders that figure in the story in the course of writing his new book 'A Great and Terrible King: Edward I and the Forging of Britain' (published by Hutchinson in March).
